How to Adopt a Pet
Adopting a pet is an involved process because of the importance of finding good matches between animals and people. Everything we do is in the best interest of the animals.
If you’re serious about bringing an animal into your home, here’s what you should know:
- Your first step is to fill out an application. This helps us determine whether the Humane Society will sponsor your adoption. It does not guarantee your adoption, but will help our counselors decide if the animal is a good fit.
- If you are ready to adopt, be prepared to take your animal home the same day you come in. The first approved applicant receives priority and we do not put animals on hold or accept deposits.
- When you adopt a pet from a shelter, you are adopting an animal with a history. It may be a bright history, and it may not be. An adoption is a lifetime commitment, so please understand our decisions are meant to better serve everyone involved.
The Humane Society of NWPA reserves the right to deny any adoption application with or without disclosure of cause.
