owner sign-over

To sign over a pet, the owner must be present to surrender the animal. If the person present is not the owner, then he or she must have written or verbal authorization from the owner to be signing the animal over to the Humane Society. In the best interest of finding the animal a new home, the owner should be prepared to provide current veterinary records including history of vaccinations and rabies. We also ask that the relinquisher give us any information regarding the pet's behavior and the experience of the animal to help us locate the most appropriate home for it. A valid Pennsylvania Driver's License or Photo ID is needed. The animal must be brought in on a leash or in a carrier to the shelter.

Please be aware that we do not accept animals with a bite history. The Humane Society reserves the right to refuse any animal that may be sick, injured, requires medical attention, is of advanced age, or any other circumstance or condition that is not in the best interest of the animal to be brought into this shelter.

Once the animal is assessed and seems appropriate to be signed into our shelter, there will be a $35.00 fee that can be made payable by cash or credit (Visa or Mastercard). We do not accept checks.

When possible, the relinquisher should contact the Humane Society at (814) 835-8331 BEFORE bringing the animal so that we can give both the animal and the owner our best attention.
