lost & found pets

lost

If you have lost a pet, the first thing you should do is to call all animal shelters in the area and inform them of your lost pet. Give a description with the pet's age, coloring, breed, size, weight, any distinguishing marks, name, if it has a collar, tags or microchip. Let the shelters know where you lost your pet, and provide all of your information including your name, phone (home & cell if applicable), address, etc.

At the Humane Society of NWPA we have a bulletin board for owners to put up any flyers they may have made for their lost pet. Once we are informed of the missing animal, we then put them into our computer system. We ask that the owners keep in touch with us, and let us know if the animal is found and safe again. If not, we will assume that the pet is still missing.

If you find a lost pet, it is free for you to run a "Found Ad" in the Erie Times. The Humane Society will put ads in the newspaper for any stray dogs or cats that come into our shelter, and we also put flyers up in our facility for the strays in our shelter. We hold any stray animals for a minimum of 48 hours.

Any animal that comes in as a stray will have an orange informational sheet hanging in front of its kennel/cage for the duration of its holding period. We have a separate room in public view containing 6 cages for Millcreek/Summit Township stray cats.
